DEFENDING THE LTTE

The two doctors have agreed on a "federal state" as a solution to the so-called ethnic problem, in Oslo the new capital of Sri Lanka. Though it is said that one of them is only a bogus doctor it does not matter much as bogus or not he is the main character in the circus. Anton Balasingham the former translator at the British High Commission in Sri Lanka makes daily statements to the press, which GL Peiris on behalf of the "government" has to defend sometimes contradicting Reuters and the other news agencies. A day is not complete without a statement from Balasingham who has now developed a habit of contradicting himself in his speeches and statements on a daily basis and one could be confused as to what he means by his statements. It is clear that he has to speak for the LTTE as well as for the "government" of Sri Lanka, as the "government" is speaking only for the LTTE.

According to the NGO pundits and others specialised in conflict resolution what is happening in the Sri Lankan capital Oslo and the other capitals in the world, is a confidence building exercise and Balasingham has been entrusted with building the confidence among the Sinhala people by his statements and speeches in English. His statements in English are different from those in Tamil. When he speaks in Tamil  to the LTTE cadres he would say, as he has said  recently in London, that the LTTE would fight for a Tamil nation or state and that there are two states in Sri Lanka etc. When these statements appear in Tamil the "government" is not bothered but when their translations appear in Sinhala or in English the editors are called by various "authorities" some of whom are themselves "editors" or who have been on "editorial staff", to explain and reveal the source of information.

There may be some who think that Balasingham makes statements in English for the consumption of the so-called international community and in Tamil for the Tamils in general and the LTTE cadres in particular. I do not believe so, as the "international community" that amount to the Anglo Saxon Christian countries and their running dogs the Scandinavian Christian countries, with their resources and agents in various organisations  would have access to what appear in Tamil. The west must be getting all these speeches and statements in Tamil translated into English, Norwegian and even Swedish and they know what Prabhakaran and Balasingham tell their "Thambis" in the terrorist outfit. If the west does not get these translated into Tamil then that could only mean that the west knows what Balasingham would be telling his "comrades in arms", and they have no objection to them. In any event Balasingham makes these statements in Tamil knowing very well that the west knows what he has to tell the terrorists. It is the Sinhala people that he wants to deceive. Sinhala people very rarely comes across even an English translation of what either Prabhakaran or Balasingham tells in Tamil and they depend on the English speeches and statements by the LTTE and their leaders.

Once English and Sinhala translations of LTTE material are published the "government" gets into a panic mood. The "government" that wants to hide these from the Sinhala people would go out of the way to deny such statements and speak on behalf of the LTTE. The two state story by Balasingham that appeared in "The Island" was denied by the "government" but when it was revealed that it was a translation of a news item that appeared in a newspaper published in the Tamil language the "government" kept quiet. Nobody should make any mistake about the statement by the twin doctors, the bogus and the spin, on a federal state. While I do not see any problem in Sri Lanka that warrants a federal solution, the talk of a federal state is to mislead the Sinhala people. What the LTTE wants is expressed in Tamil and those Sinhalas and especially the Muslims who know Tamil should translate them into English and Sinhala for the consumption of the vast majority of the Sinhala people and those Muslims who do not speak Tamil. It is most likely that in the name of "peace" ("kalakinni peace") the "government", meaning the administrative apparatus, would soon take steps to control the press if they could not do the same through the cronies in various "media units".

The federal state of the doctors is nothing but a confederation. Prabhakaran has not given up an Eelam as he had reiterated in his birthday speech, and he always speaks of Tamil aspirations. Apparently the last paragraph of his birthday speech that mentioned that "the thirst of the Tiger is the Nation of Tamil Eelam" has been left out from the English translation of the LTTE press release. He is for "peace" talks only if they satisfy the aspirations of the Tamils. Otherwise Prabhakaran says he would go back to war, though he himself knows that he cannot achieve what he wants through "war". This is only to "warn" the Sinhala people of an impending war and to establish a confederation through "peace". Prabhakaran and the west know this and they want the "peace" talks to succeed for the simple reason that "war" cannot deliver what they want. When Richard Armitage wanted the LTTE to drop arms as the "next step" Balasingham angrily reacted to it and said in no uncertain terms that the LTTE would not give up arms until the they achieve Tamil aspirations. As we said last week this could only mean handing over the arms to the army of the north and the east "government". In other words it is a case of the LTTE terrorist outfit being recognised as the army of the "government" of the north and the east.

The LTTE, in a so called federal state with an army, with separate courts, meaning different legal system amounting a different judiciary with a different legislature, would be the ruler of a "state" in a confederation. Internal self administration as far as the LTTE is concerned is a confederation. The spin doctor and the bogus doctor are trying to hoodwink the Sinhala people by referring to a federal state. It is clear that the "pas gava mahanun" (not the pas vaga mahanun mentioned in Buddhist literature with Anna Kondanna Thero but a group of priests for whom the word Anna carries a different meaning altogether. Incidentally, though spelt the same way in English, one should not confuse Anna in Pali with Anna in Tamil.) who visited a well known European country recently would come out with their "anushasana" on devolution of power so as to establish a confederation in the guise of regional autonomy. The confederation amounts to a de facto separate state and a statement by Prabhakaran as the governor or whatever he would be, would establish a different "state". If India does not intervene the "state", once declared independent would be recognised by the Scandinavian Christian countries and it would become a de jure state as well. The present "government" of Sri Lanka is not only not capable of preventing separation but as a "government" sponsored by the Christian west is actually working towards such an eventuality. It is not the "government" but India that has so far prevented a separate state being established.

The western Christian countries who are all out to destroy Sinhalathva and destabilise the region as a part of their five hundred year project of western Christian colonisation of the whole world, are after the establishment of a separate state but they would always say that they are against such a "solution". What did Armitage do after Balasingham angrily reacted to his request to surrender arms? Sweet nothing. Armitage is not serious at all about the LTTE dropping arms. The west does not act in the same manner when it comes to IRA and al Quaeda. Why this different policy with respect to the LTTE? I have said on many occasions that as far as the western Christian countries are concerned there are two types of "terrorism". The Anglophiles may not agree with my explanation but they would not come out with a satisfactory alternate explanation either. They know that the LTTE is getting a special treatment but are not prepared to give an explanation to this phenomenon. To safeguard their position they could claim that it is not necessary that all phenomena are given explanations or blame the "government" without realising that it is only the agent of the western Christian countries.

The "government" would always defend the LTTE. The establishment of the so called courts in the eastern province was first published in another newspaper. Some other newspapers followed and the Sinhala people became aware of LTTE "courts" in the eastern province. The "government" convened some of the editors responsible for the publication and warned them. They arranged even "discussions" over their pet TV channels to "ridicule" the editors. The position of the "government" was that these "courts" had been there for more than ten years in the so called uncleared areas and were not the results of a new policy. What a ridiculous statement to be made by a government. That is why I claim that there is no government in Sri Lanka today and that what we have is only an administrative apparatus. This "government" has already abdicated power and we are enacting another "Suba ha Yasa" and are only in the transitional stage awaiting Yasa to pay the supreme penalty. Even if the "courts" had been established in the so called uncleared areas it is the duty of a responsible government to clear even those areas of LTTE "courts". In any event there had been no LTTE "courts" in the eastern province and what is happening after the signing of the capitulation agreement in February is a gradual declaration of "cleared" areas in the north and the east as "uncleared". As far as the army is concerned except for some region in Vanni all the other areas in the island were "cleared" as of February. However, after February more and more regions including not only Jaffna but even the eastern province are becoming "uncleared". The "government" is purposely maintaining a not so clear position on the "cleared" and "uncleared" areas. After February we have moved on to three fold logic with areas that are both cleared as well as uncleared. In spite of "government" statements" at least two "courts" have been established in the eastern province after February and I am afraid the IGP and the Attorney General are only turning a blind eye to these "developments".  LTTE that could not win the eastern province through "war" is now gradually gaining control over the province to the detriment of not only the Sinhalas and the Muslims but also the non LTTE supporters among the Tamils living there.

The most recent defense of the LTTE has come from Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe on his visit to Japan. There he has said that the LTTE has no connections with al Quaeda. Is he certain that there are no connections between these two terrorist organisations? Was there an investigation on possible connections or is this a statement based on another assurance given by the bogus doctor to the spin doctor. We would like to know even if the Japanese are not interested in the problem any more. In any event even if the LTTE has no connections with al Quaeda does it clear (this seems to be a handy word in these not very clear days) the LTTE of terrorist activities. Does this mean that Japan following USA, what else can even an economic power do without military (political) and/or cultural strength (what happened to the economic base in Marxism), recognises only terrorism of type I as terrorism?  It appears that the only job of the "government" these days is to decorate Colombo in the nights with lights in the "festive" season, making a symbolical surrender to the western Christian culture going back to the days when we had Christian governors in the country, when it is not defending the LTTE. Colombo may have been "created" by the Portuguese and "developed" by the English. However, Colombo is neither a Lisbon nor a London and Sri Lanka is not a country in the Christian west, in spite of all the interventions and cultural attacks by the west through the universities, schools, media and even cyber space and its agents.
