ALI KOTI VALASSU NARI
When the Fox agreement was signed we predicted that it was mainly for the purpose of future "negotiations" between the LTTE and a UNP government. The UNP was to start from where the PA stopped and the PA's meaning Chandrika Kumaratunga's hands were tied to a certain extent by the agreement. Though Norway was "invited" by the PA, those who were not trained in western "Political Science" that limps behind western Physics, were in a position to know that the more powerful western Christian (not Catholic) countries were behind the so called invitation. The Fox agreement was a foxy agreement but it is not the western countries that are called nari or jackaals. The honour of being called nari goes to those pundits and activists in the Universities, NGOs and other organisations financed by the west, who support Tamil racism in general and the LTTE in particular. We all know the Ali and Koti, especially after the Ali Koti agreement (or understanding) between the UNP and the LTTE was exposed by the JVP at the last general elections. What is becoming clear to those who have no inhibitions what so ever to call the so called peace process a capitulation process or a "kalakanni" peace process is that the more important understanding involves not only Ali and Koti but Valassu or bears as well. Norway that is close to the North Pole area where Polar bears are supposed to live is only the small bear. The big bears are behind Norway and the "reasonable" people have become scared of the bears so much they would not say anything against the LTTE thinking that it would jepordise the "peace proces". I suppose only the "unreasonable" men and women who have the guts to speak against the so called peace process.
Why should one be scared to speak or write against the "peace process". I do not mind if somebody calls me an unreasonable person as I know that "reason" becomes reason only with respect to a certain culture, chinthanaya and paradigm. What is reasonable in the Newtonian paradigm is not reasonable in the Quantum or Einsteinian paradigm and this relativity of reasonableness is more evident in what are called western social sciences. I read with interest in a recent article where Prof. SN Arsecularatne mentions how he confronted two students with the idea of jumping for few seconds and be off the earth's surface in order to travel from point A on the earth's surface to a point B west of A. Before Galileo a similar "reason" was given by men to demonstrate that the earth does not rotate about its axis. They were very reasonable men ( I suppose the women were not considered to be reasonable then, according to the ideas on reasonableness prevailing at that time in Europe) until Galileo reasoned out and questioned their reasonableness. Those who are interested in methods and reasons are referred to "Against Method" and "Farewell to Reason" by Feyeraband. Reasonableness is not independent of the power structures and in a world controled by the "Valassu" it is their reasonableness that is reasonable. If the western "intellectuals" such as the Tamil racist Peter Schalk of the Uppsala university do not recognise me to be reasonable I would not be unhappy. I will continue to write against the "kalakanni" peace process, exposing not only the Ali Koti and Nari but the Valassu as well. I may not be a reasonable person in their eyes, but then I know that reason like anything else is created by men and women, is relative and not separated from power. Reasonableness is defined relative to the hegemonic culture and what is reasonable in one society may not be reasonable in another society.
The episode of transmission equipment exposed the Ali Koti Valassu understanding. The adminstrative apparatus that goes as the government after some time issued a statement on the equipment that are supposed to have been imported in the name of Westborg the Norwegian ambassador in Sri Lanka. I do not want to analyse the statements by the "government" and by the Norwegians to expose the contradictions in them, as others including "The Island" editorial have already done so. Suffice is to say that it is clear that those who are involved are trying to hide the fact that the transmission equipment were imported for the LTTE with the connivance of the "government" and the Norwegian embassy. The date of the application by the LTTE to import these equipment, the date on which they were imported, the exemption of tax, the involvement of the Norwegian ambassador, transportation of the equipment to Vavuniya with the assitance of the Ministry of defence etc., lead to the conclusion that there is not only an "Ali Koti givisuma" but an "Ali Koti Valas givisuma", the former being a "subsidiary" of the latter. The jackaals or the "nari" are only the boys and the girls of the cheer squad of the "Ali Koti and Valassu".
Time has come for the people in Sri Lanka to say enough is enough. The President in the name of the nation has now to use her executive powers. The Norwegian ambassador has to be declared a persona non grata and be deported. It is obvious that he has violated the Vienna agreement on the diplomats and diplomacy between two countries. This man who was involved with the settling of estate Tamils in Vavuniya and surrounding areas, as the head of Red Barna should not have been appointed as the Norwegian ambassador in the first instance. However it is not only the ambassador that is creating problems for the security of Sri Lankan state. The whole embassy is involved in the act. The so called MOU as we have pointed on many occassions made the LTTE and the "government" equal partners while giving equal status to the Sri Lankan army and the terrorists.
The President should take action to suspend diplomatic relations with Norway imediately. There may be third rate "Political Scientists" and others who would talk of practicability of such action. Some others would say it would obstruct the "peace process". These are only responses by people who accept the western political cultural and economic hegemony. If the President takes such a step more than ninety perecent of the Sinhala people vast majority of the Muslims and a large number of Tamils would support her. However, it is not only the Norwegiam embassy that is involved in the process of capitulation. The so called government is an equal partner. The President should make use of her executive powers to form an alternative government, actually a government as what we have today is only an administrative apparatus.
In fact there are four steps that the President could take. Two of them, namely suspension of diplomatic relations with Norway and forming a government have been already mentioned. The third step is to demerge the northern and the eastern provinces and appoint a separate governor for the eastern province. I have mentioned this also on number of occasions and I do not wish to go into details. There are no historical, geographical, cultural or any such reason to merge the northern and the eastern provinces. The demographic patterns are different in the two provinces not to mention many other counts on which there differences. In any event these provinces were created by the British mainly for their adminstritave purposes and were not based on historical demarcations based on "rata" "korale" etc.
The northern and the southern provinces were merged temporarily as a result of the Indo Lanka agrement only to satisfy the aspirations of Tamil racism. It is only a tempoarary merger and the President has the power to demege. The demerger of the provinces would solve the Muslim "problem" as well as the Muslims are against the merger. More than ninety percent of the population in the country do not want a merger and it is the Tamil racists comprising less than ten percent of the population who want the merger in order to deprive Sinhalathva its rightful place in the country.
The fourth step that the President could take is to use her powers as the supreme commander of the armed forces. Today the LTTE terrorists are demanding that the army should leave the high security zones. The terrorist gang makes this demand ostensibly to help the Tamils to go back to these zones. If the Tamils are outside these zones then it is as a result of the LTTE terrorist activities. If not for the LTTE resorting to terrorist activities demanding a separate state there would not have been any high security zones and the people would have continued to live in those areas. The LTTE has taken up arms to deprive Sinhalathva its rightful place in the country. The "Ali Koti Valas givisuma" is only facilitating the LTTE to achieve its objective. In fact it is the only "facilitation" that Norway provides.
The LTTE that takes Tamils as captives, that exthorts money from the Tamils, that kills Tamils has no right to speak for the Tamils. They only speak for themselves and when they say that the Tamils want to move into the high security zones they mean that the LTTE wants to take control of the Jaffna peninsula without firing a shot. The "nari" could say that the "peace process" is an ongoing process of confidence building. The LTTE is all for the confidence building by the army, but not by themselves. When they are asked to decommission weapons as a reciprocal measure they are not prepared to do so. Any ceasefire should not alter the existing power balance with respect to camps, weapons man power etc. However what is happening is that while the LTTE is recruiting men and women including boys and girls, buying arms and bringing them to the country, storing bombs in Colombo (is there any inquiry into the gas street explosion?), sending terrorists to the city, the armed forces are forced to do nothing.
It is with this background that the stand taken by officers such as Major General Sarath Fonseka should be appreciated. The LTTE wants to see the back of the General and officers of such calibre need the support of the President as the supreme commander of the armed forces. The President has to see that the armed forces are not withdrawn from the high security zones and the morale of the armed forces is kept high. One small positive step from the President would rally the nation round her and the "Ali Koti Valas givisuma" would come to nought. However, she would have to be careful of "Nari" who would try to creep into positions of influence as Trojan horses or "Kolomba Nari".
