ANANDASANGAREE REALISES THE TRUTH
Mr. Anandasangaree had to come out with the truth. The LTTE is not the sole representative of the Tamils in Sri Lanka. It represents some Tamils and also some Sinhalas who would like to see the end of the Sinhala Buddhist culture in the country. It has the support of the westerners led by George W. Bush or Bush Junior, who are interested in establishing the western Christian hegemony over the whole world. While Bush himself has undertaken the Crusade against Iraq, Prabhakaran is conducting his version of the Crusade against the Sinhala Buddhists, on behalf of Bush Junior. The Norwegians, as they would like to call themselves are the facilitators who go between Bush and Prabhakaran. The sooner the Tamil Hindus in Sri Lanka realise this fact, it is better not only for them but for the country in general.
The TULF and some other Tamil parties for sometime had recognised the LTTE as the sole representatives of the Tamils. Mr. Anandasangaree or any other leader cannot deny that as it is on record. However one has to welcome this change of heart from the TULF leader and he has to be protected as he is in danger of becoming the next victim of the pistol gang of the LTTE. We do not know what made Mr. Anandasangaree to change his position but it is clear that in spite of the results of the surveys conducted by various NGO "intellectuals", that proclaim that the vast majority of the Tamils accept the LTTE as their representative, most of the Tamil Hindus are against the LTTE. It is the Catholic Church in Jaffna that is the main force behind the LTTE and I am told by some Tamil Hindus that the Catholic priests have access to Prabhakaran at any time but not the Hindus. It is quite possible that the opinion of the Tamil Hindus has forced the leadership of the TULF to take a somewhat firm stand against the fascist group supported by the west.
According to Mr. Anandasangaree the LTTE has not allowed the TULF to organise a meeting to commemorate Mr. Amirthalingam who was killed by the gang of murderers who call themselves the liberators of the Tamils. If Mr. Anandasangaree is elected as the deputy speaker in the parliament, he would have to be given extra protection as Prabhakaran would definitely not take these developments lightly. It is said that the mayor of Jaffna, from the TULF, has come to live among the Sinhalas in Colombo as his life is in danger if he continues to live in Jaffna. The LTTE opposed the opening of the Jaffna library that was built mainly with the money of the Sinhala people as they wanted to convert it into a "war memorial" in the form of a museum. The mayor of Jaffna who opposed the LTTE plans had to flee to Colombo to save his life from the fascist murderers, once called the boys by Mr. and Mrs. Amirthalingam as well as the others in the TULF.
Anton Balasingham has told the other doctor G. L. Peiris that the LTTE has agreed to conduct provincial council elections in the northern and the eastern provinces. However, neither Balasingham nor Peiris told the press that the LTTE has agreed with the government on the elections only on one condition. The impression given to the people living in Sri Lanka was that the LTTE has taken the democratic path and that it would only be a matter of time before the elections are held. However later it was revealed that the LTTE had demanded that it should supervise the elections. The parties including the TULF would have naturally understood what this supervision meant and it is unlikely that some of the Tamil parties would agree to this demand of the LTTE.
However it is the TULF that is responsible for the state of affairs. The TULF and its predecessors the Federal Party and the Tamil Congress of the Ponnambalams nurtured the LTTE, and the English speaking Tamils in Colombo who wanted to dominate the English speaking Sinhalas and through them all the Sinhalas gave all the encouragement to the LTTE calling Prabhakaran and his gang of terrorists their boys. The boys grew up and killed the "annas" and the others. It is not the LTTE that cooked up stories on Devanam Piyathesams and new myths on the origin of the Tamils. There are lots of people who publish so called research papers at the drop of a hat on the Mahavansa and the "mythical Sinhala history". More than ninety percent of the history given in Mahavansa corroborate with archaeological and other historical facts not only in Sri Lanka but even in India. The most famous king of Bharath, Ashoka or Dharmashoka or Devanampiya Ashoka was identified with the help of Mahavansa. If Mahavansa goes wrong it is not in the essence but in the detail. For example it is now known that the Aryan language speaking people had to come to Sri Lanka as early as the ninth century BC when Mahavansa refers to a latter date.
The myth that the Tamils had been living in this country before the Aryans, meaning Aryan languages speaking people came to Sri Lanka has been spread with the help of the Dutch and the British. Some English speaking Tamil racists came out with the theory that the original Dravidians living in this country were divided into two races after Buddhism was introduced during the time of "Devanampiya Theesam". According to them those who became Buddhists after learning Pali and other Aryan languages evolved a new language called Sinhala and went on to establish the Sinhala race. Though Theesam sounds Tamil there have been no Theesams either in India or Sri Lanka other than "Devanampiya Theesam" and the English speaking Tamils have not been able to explain the Devanampiya part of the name. Why did these people wait for the arrival of Buddhism to form a new nation or a race, when the Aryans had been living in this country for at least five hundred years before Arhat Mahinda came to Sri Lanka. What happened to the Aryans who had migrated to this country for five hundred years before the arrival of Arhat Mahinda. Were they all absorbed into the Dravidian culture that was supposed to be in the country from time immemorial? Why didn't that happen in India? Why weren't the Aryans who came to India absorbed into the Dravidian civilisation that was supposed to have links to the Mohenjadaro Harappa civilsation?
However it is now known that the Dravidians have come to South India from west Asia, let alone to Sri Lanka from India, after the Aryans had come to Sri Lanka and these "theories" of the English speaking Tamils who wanted to dominate with the help of the British, have collapsed like a pack of cards. Those who attempt to link the Dravidian culture with the Mohenjadaro Harappa civilisation are not different from somebody who would try to link the present day Arabs in Egypt with the ancients who built the pyramids. The Tamil racist myth makers among the English educated Tamils have been working overtime in vain, in order to show that the Tamils were the original people in Sri Lanka. However, humans act on what they believe, and as the myths created by the English speaking Tamils have diffused to other strata of the Tamil society the Tamil racists have jumped on these stories in order to justify their claim for a separate state. The Eelam cry could be heard long time ago and people such as C. Suntheralingam used the word Eylom to refer to the mythical Tamil country that had existed in the minds of the Tamil racists.
The Tamil Congress and the so called Federal Party, its name in Tamil being Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi or Lanka Tamil State Party, were led by English speaking Tamils who were determined to become the leaders of the entire country and of all the citizens including the Sinhalas. It took some time before they realised that they could not become the leaders of the Sinhalas though some of the English speaking "Sinhala leaders" were prepared to accept the Tamils as their leaders as well. After Chelvanayakam realised that there was no way for the Tamils to become the leaders of the country, the so called Federal party was formed. This party, more than any other party, is responsible for the creation of the LTTE
If Mr. Anandasangaree and the other Hindu leaders in the TULF would try to understand what has happened in the past since the country became a British colony, they would find that the Sinhalas had not taken away any rights or privileges of the Tamils. It was the British who made use of some of the Tamil leaders to deprive Sinhalathva its rightful place in the country. The Americans and the British, through the Norwegians are only continuing what the British did before the so-called independence. There is no point in asking for a confederation or a federation as the Sinhalas would oppose any kind of federalism. Even if Dr. G. L. Peiris and his friend Balasingham agree on these matters the parliament has to approve the final bill with a two third majority and it is not only the SLFP, JVP, MEP, and the others in the opposition who know that it would not be feasible with the present composition of MPs in the Parliament.
The Tamils, especially the Tamil Hindus are trapped in a situation created by the British and the only way for them to come out from this trap by joining with the Sinhalas, especially the Sinhala Buddhists. The English speaking Tamils in Colombo and other places who have been used by the Dutch and then by the British, and those "friends" of the Tamils in the NGOs, the western countries, the Christian and the Catholic churches should be asked to go to Iraq and campaign for peace. The Americans and the British who are the major threat to world peace are not genuine when they call for peace in Sri Lanka. These Anglo American Christians who dominate the world and who train the so called intellectuals in the so called third world to think like them through their theories that have been presented to the world as objective, are only interested in maintaining their hegemony in the spheres of politics, economics and culture. The present crusade of Bush and his (white) house boy Blair is not only to "protect" the oil wells in Iraq as some Marxists would try to argue but for their domination in the cultural field as well. Prabhakaran is only an agent of the Anglo American Christians against the Sinhala people. As was mentioned last week in this column the Norwegians should be sent to west Asia to work out a peace package to be presented to Bush and Sadam Hussein. Perhaps Dr. G. L. Peiris could join them as there is nothing else that he could do.
However, some European countries are not with the Anglo Americans with respect to either Prabhakaran or Sadam Hussein. France for whatever reason has not being involved with those "peace" missions to Vanni in Sri Lanka nor the war missions to Baghdad. In any event we are witnessing the last phase of western domination in the world that is bound to come to an end before the end of the present century. It is a different world emerging with the Muslims becoming a dominant force as it was the case before modernity commenced in Europe. The genuine "postmodernity" would begin only then in contrast to the bogus postmodernity that has been created by the western intellectuals. The Hindus and the Buddhists in South and South East Asia, and the Chinese and the others would have to think of their future in the context of the emerging political, economic and cultural trends.
