THE ALLIANCE AND TAMIL RACISM

It is said that the meeting between the SLFP and the JVP leaders scheduled for today is very crucial. It will decide not only the fate of the two parties but that of Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga as well. If the talks fail, Ms. Kumaratunga would have no option but to retire from politics in two years time at the end of her second term as the President of the country. If she continues to listen to her so-called advisors, and some others who are mere professors in the universities without any significant contribution to knowledge, but who have contributed significantly towards their bank accounts with their "work" associated with various peace institutes, she would be reduced to a ceremonial President until her retirement from politics. It is interesting to note that the discussions between the party leaders would be held amidst a "long march" organised by the JVP from Galle to Colombo. The leaders of the JVP and the SLFP will also take note of increasing protests by the Muslims against the LTTE, and the demand by most of them as well as the vast majority of Sinhalas to establish separate provincial councils for the northern and the eastern provinces. In the recent times, this demand was first raised at a meeting of the alliance of the Sinhala MPs held at the temple of Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero where Messrs Dinesh Gunawardhane, Mahipala Herath, Tissa Karaliyedde and others were present.

The party leaders meeting in Colombo today, can in no way forget the meeting of the LTTE "think tank" in Paris. The lawyers, most of whom who enjoyed free education in Sri Lanka with the funds collected as indirect taxes from the people, the majority of them being Sinhala, and who are heirs to the racist politics of the English speaking Tamil "professionals" and "landed proprietors" of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, against their counterparts among the English speaking Sinhalas who were not in a majority among the English speaking elite of the country due to the discriminating educational policies of the British against the Sinhalas, would be advising the LTTE, the fascist monster created as a result of SJV Chelvanayakam taking Tamil racism to the non English speaking Tamils in the latter part of the forties, long before the Sinhala language bill, the so called Sinhala supremacy constitution of Colvin R de Silva, the Samasamajist, and the so called black July in 1983. Of course, the Arantalawas, the attack near the Sri Maha Bodhi, the attack on the Dalada Maligawa,  the bomb explosions in Colombo and other places, the attacks on the Muslims etc., killing thousands of innocent people including infants during the last twenty years is forgotten thanks to the western media including the BBC and their so called political commentators, and their henchmen and henchwomen in Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna.

Tamil racism has a history going back to the Dutch period as we have mentioned several times, and in the British period it was baptised  in 1833 with the appointment of one member each to represent the Sinhalas and the Tamils in the legislative assembly, disregarding the seventy five percent of the Sinhalas and the country and unique culture that they had created and developed over a period of more than two thousand years. At that time there was no representative of the Muslims in the assembly and later Ponnambalam Ramanathan, the Tamil racist, claimed that he represented the Muslims as well in that British created body. The English speaking Tamil racists, from 1833 to 1947  had been busy with depriving the English speaking Sinhalas mainly, their rights especially in the legislature and the professions with the connivance of the British. It is the Sinhalas who had to put up with injustices during this period. There was nothing wrong with the citizenship Act of 1947, as the country had the right to decide who qualified to become its citizens and the biggest mistake we did was in not asking the British to take, those whom they brought to Sri Lanka from India to work in the plantations, with them to London. The British who considered all those who lived in their colonies as British subjects had no problem in transporting people from one country to another country in their "empire", revealing the finger prints of colonialism that were made long before the visa requirements and finger print policies were formulated.

The injustices done to the Sinhalas from 1833 to 1956 by the English speaking Tamil racists, and then from 1983 up to date by the LTTE  are never mentioned by the British and the other western media, the western political scientists and the others and their counterparts in Sri Lanka. What is always highlighted is the 21 year period from 1956 to 1977,  in this history of 170 years since 1833, during which time some steps were taken to redress the grievances, especially of the Sinhala Buddhists, that were the result of western Christian colonialism, and the so-called black July of 1983 that was masterminded by the then UNP government, perhaps with instructions from the colonialists themselves, in order to suppress the JVP. It is no secret that the western colonialism that is after Sinhalathva in this country is instrumental in projecting the measures taken from 1956 to 1977 against the policies of colonialism as injustices against the Tamils.

If we were to take the Dutch period also into consideration, during which time the ancestors of most of the present day Tamils, including the elite families in Jaffna were brought to the Jaffna peninsula for the tobacco cultivations and the commissioning of writing bogus history of the Tamils by the Dutch officials, in order to deprive the Sinhala kings any claim to the maritime provinces in the north and the east, we would have a grimmer picture of the injustices done to the Sinhalas by the westerners. We have analysed the so called injustices to the Tamils in "Prabhakaran, Ohuge Seeyala, Baappala Ha Masinala" which is translated into English as "An Introduction to Tamil Racism in Sri Lanka", and shown that the Sinhala language bill etc., were not injustices caused to the Tamils. For example, if Tamils do not become second class citizens in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Britain, Canada, Australia etc., simply because Tamil is not an official language, how come that the Tamil racists claim that after Sinhala was made the official language, the Tamils have been degraded to second class citizenship in this country?

It has to be emphasised that Mr. Siva Pasupathy who is in Paris with the LTTE team, has been the Attorney General of Sri Lanka, in the recent past, where there are supposed to be injustices to the Tamils. When one considers, the fact that the present Attorney General is also a Tamil, and also the habit of Tamils who are appointed as judges in higher courts making remarks of the so called injustices to the Tamils at ceremonial sittings and at other places, one could come to one's own conclusions as to the injustices caused to the Tamils. Are there black judges and ex attorney generals in France, whatever they are called in French in the French judiciary, if any, expressing their opinions publicly on the injustices to the blacks? It may be that there are no injustices to the blacks in France.

Incidentally what has happened to the Kinniya camp? Is Solheim in consultation with the Norwegian government and the British and the American governments over the camp issue? Has the camp being buried under the news from France? It is clear that the west is still not prepared to drop Prabhakaran, even though he does not listen to them sometimes. The English speaking Tamil racists who have been the darlings of the British colonialists and the so-called international community, are also not prepared to sever their links with the LTTE. They all want Prabhakaran and the LTTE in order to weaken if not destroy Sinhalathva in the country. This is something that the JVP probably knows, which the SLFP leadership is unable to understand. The SLFP leadership imposed on the party by the west and the NGOs controlled by the west, together with the many advisors seem to believe that they could control the LTTE with the assistance of the so called democratic west, by giving them a federal state.

The injustices caused to the Tamils is a myth created by the west in collaboration with the Tamil racists and if not for the western media and the pundits in the western universities, this myth would not have gained any "credibility". What is accepted as a fact, in the west and in the elite circles in the "third world" countries, is something that gains currency within the system of knowledge created by the west. It has to be emphasised that knowledge is created and facts are not sacrosanct and are interpreted within "accepted" theories. No fact is independent of a theory and the story of a scientific methodology where facts are collected before formulating a theory is old hat, as old as the English top hat and is only good for "boru shoke" intellectual discussions at bogus seminars. The discussions at these seminars are supposed to be of high brow type, only because the speakers raise their eye brows while "making a point". The "facts", concepts, theories etc., make an integrated whole, sometimes consistent but very often not consistent. The myth created by the west and the Tamil racists, on the injustices to the Tamils is an inconsistent whole with so many contradictions,  that would have been discarded long time ago if not for the western hegemony in knowledge that protects it. Unlike the JVP, the SLFP leadership that is directed by the NGOs believes in this myth and thinks that there are so called Tamil grievances. If the SLFP leaders are unable to drop the Norwegians, I am afraid the Sinhala masses will drop the SLFP together with the leaders within no time.  However much we come up with a consistent whole with a theory on Tamil racism, the west would not "buy" it for the simple reason that it is not what they want. Such a theory is not in their interests and they allow the myth on injustices to the Tamils, with its internal contradictions, to flourish as the latter serves their colonial purposes.

The Paris meeting of the Tamil racist "think tank" consisting of Soronarajahs (is Thamilmaran of the University of colombo also a member?) who were produced by the free education system of this country after 1956, would obviously come up with a  polished document that  would explicitly or implicitly refer to the myth on the injustices and the historical habitats of the Tamils. A "government" and an opposition that believes in the myth would be trapped, but not the others. The English speaking Tamil racists and the west who want Prabhakaran to destroy Sinhalathva, if possible, would feed him with Paris documents and others. They know that if Prabhakaran is defeated there is no chance for Tamil racism what so ever and hence until they could find somebody who could replace him they would continue to support him. They would turn a blind eye, with or without the eye brow raised, to the murders by the fascist monster.

The apologists for LTTE in the TNA have made statements on the proposal to set up a police unit with Muslims. Though I am not in favour of such ethnic units in the armed forces and the police, what moral authority these Tamil racists have to object to a Muslim unit in the police. Did not the Tamil racists want Tamil units in the army sometime ago? In fact they were thinking in terms of a Sankili regiment comprising only Tamils. The TELO leader Adaikalanathan has made a statement to a Tamil newspaper to the effect that if the president takes steps to set up separate provincial councils for the northern and the eastern provinces then it would result in a stream of blood. (It has to be emphasised that the two provinces are not merged. JRJ established a single provincial council for the two provinces and what has to be done is to establish two separate provincial councils for the two provinces. It is not correct to ask the president to demerge the provinces as they are not merged.) Are the others allowed to make such statements? The "government" and the opposition including the president tolerate such statements as the Tamil racists have the support of the western colonialism. The majority of the Sinhalas want an alliance of the SLFP and the JVP in order to defeat this western colonialism together with its appendage Tamil racism. If the president is not prepared to listen to this request she would be remembered as the daughter who dumped the party of her parents into the dustbin of history.
