THE LAWS OF JOINT MECHANICS
Mr. Akashi is yet to reply Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe's question as to if the Joint Mechanism is not about peace why the former should be so much concerned about it. Perhaps ha has not heard of Mr. Jayntha Dhanapala's symbiotic relationship between peace and post tsunami rebuilding of nation. Mr. Dhanapala may not have expressed his opinion in the same words but Mr. Amarasinghe who had at least seen Mr. Dhanapala on their way to Japan could have asked the latter a question similar to what was asked from Mr. Akashi and received a "reasonable" reply, instead of no reply.
In any event, may be as a result of the symbiotic relationship between peace and tsunami, the Joint Mechanism has been re-Christened as Post Tsunami Operational Management Structure (PTOMS) reminding us of 'tom pacahayas'. Who would have ever thought that tsunami would make a contribution towards peace but poor Mr. Akashi is still ignorant of importance of tsunami to peace. He should meet Mr. Dhanapala when he comes to Sri Lanka next time. These foreigners come to Sri Lanka so much that many people do not know whether they are coming or going.
However, nobody, not even Mr. Dhanapala has explained to the general public or to any special group of public such as the civil society guys and gals why there should be an elaborate structure for the PTOMS. It has to have some sort of structure as otherwise PTOMS could not be called as such, but why this three tier structure with representations from the LTTE at national and regional levels.
The JVP has gone to the extent of finding out the total number of Grama Sevaka divisions in the northern and the eastern provinces and also the number of Grama Sevaka divisions in the areas where the LTTE is present. The percentage of grama sevaka divisions where the LTTE is present is very small, and if it is a case of distributing aid in these grama sevaka divisions then the LTTE should be held responsible for not allowing the government machinery to attend to the needs of the people who have been affected by tsunami, in those areas.
In the other grama sevaka divisions there cannot be any obstacle for the government officials to engage in "rebuilding" the areas and distributing aid, and if the so called aid donors are genuine they should not force the government to set up the joint machinery with the LTTE. As we have said on number of occasions the LTTE was weakened after the tsunami, and it is the west and their political lap dogs in the so called far east who by imposing conditions on the government, that is hell bent on resurrecting the LTTE.
If not for the west and their paid servants in the NGO s and the INGOs the LTTE should have been crushed by now, and at least the so called ethnic problem could have been solved. There is no ethnic problem as such in Sri Lanka but a problem created by the Europeans by manipulating a "minority" against the Sinhalas and especially the Sinhala Buddhists. The problem in the country is due to depriving the Sinhala Buddhist culture its due place in the country.
It is easy to see that it is the west and their paid servants who are mainly either (ex) Marxists or Christians with a mission, who are behind the problem. These people would go to the extent of defending the LTTE, even when the latter violates the MoU signed between Ranil Wickremesinghe and Velupillai Prabhakaran. They will tell us that the Joint Mechanism is only a mechanism to distribute aid in an area limited two miles from the beach, and that the whole exercise would be over in an year.
The latter is true in the sense that if the joint mechanism is in operation for an year then a confederation would be created within that period based on the "legal" position of recognising the LTTE in the Joint Mechanism, and there would be no need for the mechanism after an year. The Mechanics of the Joint Mechanism is not very difficult to study, and the laws of mechanics can be formulated very easily. The first law of the Mechanics of Joint Mechanism is that if there are no external (western) forces the LTTE would die a natural death. The second law states that the so called aid given to GOSL and LTTE is proportional to the powers given to the LTTE. The third law is of course on the reaction, and it says that the reaction of the Sinhala people would be equal and opposite to the action of the western forces. While Newton's Laws of Mechanics are said to be valid in inertial frames of reference above laws are valid only in the frames of governments that rotate about the western Christian governments, in obedience.
It is clear that Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga who is on her last lap in politics is determined to destroy the SLFP (and of course the country) before she goes back to her country residence either in Egypt or England. It is the classic case of "yana yaka koraha bindagena yema" and if the politicians in the SLFP do not awake at least now, then it is they who would lose and not Ms. Kumaratunga. The JVP has already announced that if the Joint Mechanism is established it would also contest at the next presidential election as an independent party. If the JVP contests and decides not give the second preferences to the SLFP candidate, then it would be the downfall of next presidential candidate of the SLFP, and not of Ms. Kumaratunga. As she cannot contest the next presidential election she is not going to lose as a result of the JVP contesting the presidential elections independently. It is the next presidential candidate of the SLFP, whoever he or she may be, who will be affected by the decision of the JVP to contest the next presidential elections.
The leaders of the SLFP, other than Ms. Kumaratunga, should think very hard on the course of action that the President has decided to follow. It is true that unlike Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse who had been loyal to the party throughout his political career, both Ms. Kumaratunga and Mr. Anura Bandaranaike had left the SLFP at some stage or the other. While it can be said that Mr. Bandaranaike had no problems with the policies of the party, he left essentially due to personal reasons, Ms. Kumaratunga following her anti Sinhala Buddhist husband, was against the SLFP being the party of Sinhalathva in the country. She was brought back from her self exile in London by the members of the SLMP and others who wanted to change the course of the party. It is time that the SLFP thought about changing the leadership of the party before Ms. Kumaratunga does more damage to the party. In 1992 she was able to lead the party to victory as the country at that time needed to defeat the UNP. A SLFP dominated coalition government was formed in 1994 defeating what they called the 17 year curse of the UNP governments. Even at that time we warned the people of giving total power to Ms. Kumaratunga and wanted them to elect a group that could control her in the parliament. The people realised the importance of what we said only ten years after that, and elected a substantial number of JVP members who could apply pressure on the SLFP dominated government.
Unlike Mr. Anura Bandaranaike who left the SLFP due to personal reasons Ms. Kumaratunga is not loyal to the policies of the party. She is loyal to the policies of her husband and not the policies of her mother. She boasts from political platforms, where she cannot be challenged, that some eighty percent of the people support the joint mechanism. Either she is not good in her Arithmetic or she considers her henchmen and henchwomen around her as the people. If she has so much support for the Joint Mechanism she could conduct a referendum on that matter.
The proponents of the Joint Mechanism know that there is no support for the Joint Mechanism among the Sinhala and Muslim people. There is opposition among the Tamil Hindus, as well, who have begun to realise what is really happening with so many white Christian westerners trying to run the country in various capacities as advisors, monitors, consultants etc. Those behind the Joint Mechanism knowing that the people oppose their latest attempt to deprive the Sinhalathva its rightful place in the country, consider only the composition of the three "tiers" of the JM and how Sinhalas are under represented, have changed the name to PTOMS thinking that they could deceive the people. Whether PTOMS, JM or PEACE they all mean the same thing to the Sinhalas, especially to the Sinhala Buddhists. They are symbiotic undoubtedly as Mr. Dhanapala who has good relations with the Christian west has said, but they are antibiotic as far as the living body of Sinhalathva is concerned.
