MAHINDA , JVP AND THE "INTELLECTUALS"
Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse has already started his Presidential election campaign, though not officially. He has the backing of the so called left including Mr. Vasudeva Nanayakkara and the "left of centre" NGO pseudo intellectuals from the Departments of Political Science and not surprisingly one of these pseudo intellectuals had told the press of the danger that parties such as JVP and JHU and what he calls "mathavadee sanvidhana" such as the Chinthana Parshadaya supporting the candidature of Mr. Rajapakse. This person who is interested in the human rights of the terrorists but not of the trade union rights of those who work with him must be thinking that the "pravada" of his masters and the mistresses in the west are superior to mathavada.
Chinthana Parshadaya is undoubtedly an organization that is involved with the creation of mathavada. However, though some of the so called social scientists may not know there is no difference between mathavada and pravada (theories) the former being created by the public at large, whereas the latter being the creations of the so called intellectuals. Even Newton's theory is mathavadaya which has been rejected by Einstein. Gravity was created by Newton in order to explain how apples and other objects fall to the ground, and it was his mathavadaya. Einstein has a different mathavadaya on "falling of bodies. According to Einstein's mathavadaya bodies move in what are known as geodesics.
Of course there are many pseudo intellectuals who can only echo the mathavaadayas of their masters and mistresses, and these people publish magazines bearing the name pravada thinking that the contents of the articles published are not mathavadayas. These people who cannot produce anything and think that only the westerners can produce pravadas propagate these as gospel truth among the public. The so called intellectuals must also realize that "pravadas" also have a political content, and one pravada is accepted in preference to the others on the strength of the political forces behind them. At present western theories and pravadas are accepted world wide mainly due to the political strength of the western states.
Chinthana Parshadaya is not ashamed to propagate the mathavadayas or the pravadas that they have produced unlike pseudo intellectuals who propagate the mathavadayas of the west, very often for a few dollars thrown at them by the producers in the west. The Parshadaya is very active, and very often produce more articles than that produced by the Political Science Departments of certain universities.
Chinthana Parshadaya would want to back Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse on certain conditions. It is not an unconditional support and the first in this regard would be on the PTOMS. These idiotic boards should be scrapped as there is no necessity for these institutions. If the commissioner of examinations can conduct examinations in those tsunami affected areas without the support of the LTTE the tsunami aid distributors should be able to do their work without the participation of the terrorists. The Prime Minister should stand for a unitary state, and do away with the provincial councils which have become a white elephant for the treasury as well as the public. He should pledge that he would not do anything to deprive the Sinhala people and their culture the due place in the country.
In this connection I am reminded of the way the British who are supposed to be democratic and who gave the parliamentary system to the world behaved after the bomb explosion in London. They killed an innocent man from Brazil, and of course said sorry, what a meaningless word that the English and the British use under certain circumstances, and thus threatened all the non white people, especially the Asians living in Britain. They would never talk to Al Quaeda, and would not tolerate a Solheim. There are no British "intellectuals" demonstrating at the Trafalgar Square against the killing of the Brazilian and there is no peace movement organized and spearheaded by the Christians and the Catholics. No movement would ask for peace talks with Al Quaeda and the media would go to town against the terrorists.
The day after those who were supposedly involved in the second bomb attack were arrested by the police the SUN in London carried the headlines "Got the Bastards"! We do not know how the editor of Sun found out about the parentage of the suspects, but he also forgot in the rush that they were only suspects. One could say in a country where innocents are shot in the head simply because they are suspected there is nothing much in an editor of a tabloid newspaper calling some suspects bastards.
To outdo the police and the editor the shadow minister of home affairs called on the Muslims to integrate with the British (meaning the culture) and to get out if they cannot. Even if the person concerned was born in Britain the shadow minister has said that he could not do anything, but probably felt sorry. Now what would our intellectuals say on plurality, unity in diversity and all such nice terms that are used in respect of "minorities" in Sri Lanka. After all we are supposed to learn from the British, and we would leave it to the pseudo intellectuals to decide how Sri Lankan "government" should behave not after one bomb attack but hundred of brutal killings by Tamil Tiger terrorists.
The Prime Minister should also promise that he would declare that the MoU signed between Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prabhakaran, null and void if he became the President. The LTTE goes on killing personnel in the police and armed forces as if the MoU is a license to such killing and the "government" can only condemn those killings. There is no necessity to have a "government" to issue statements condemning MoU killings, as any mortal who is not prepared to destroy the LTTE could do so. Apparently a person who was imported by the NGO's some twelve years ago by the NGO pundits and others, when told about the killing of the latest police officer, has fire backed saying if not for the MoU more police officers would have been killed! Mr. Rajapakse if he became the President should take steps to stop these MoU killings.
The JVP is certain to come out with its own conditions, just as much the peace brigade would impose their conditions to the Prime Minister at the same time. The peace brigade, as the pseudo intellectual referred to above has already said would want Mr. Rajapakse not to have any ties with the JVP and the other "Sinhala racists". They would also remind that it is essential that Mr. Rajapakse wins the so called minority vote if he is to win the Presidential elections
What would happen if Mr. Rajapakse fails to come to an agreement with the JVP? Can he win on the "minority vote" without the JVP support? Where do the peace brigade members stand in respect of the Presidential Elections? More specifically whom would they vote for with or without the JVP supporting Mr. Rajapakse? It is clear that most of the peace brigade would vote for Mr. Wickremesinghe in preference for Mr. Rajapakse. These people who advise Mr. Rajapakse on the "minority vote" would want Mr. Wickremesinghe as the President, and they would like to see Mr. Rajapakse without the JVP to make sure that the latter lose the elections.
The left as represented by Mr. Vasudeva Nanayakkara would vote for Mr. Rajapakse in any case, but they are an insignificant number in terms of vote. It is clear that if Mr. Rajapakse does not form a "Sandhanaya" with the JVP he is bound to lose even if he wins the minority vote of Mr. Thondaman and others. In the absence of a Sandhanaya there would be many voters who would be demoralized, and would vote for Mr. Wickremesinghe as they would think that the latter would win. In Sri Lanka voters prefer to vote for a winning candidate and the JVP fielding its own candidate or even not supporting Mr. Rajapakse would make them vote for Mr. Wickremesinghe. Thus taking into consideration all these factors and what we mentioned in these columns last week it is clear that Mr. Rajapakse should try to form a Sandhanaya with the JVP than be misled by the pseudo intellectuals to campaign to win the "minority" vote, if he wants to become the next President.
